Craig Shearer Testmonial - RCFC 31st Aug

The Craig Shearer Testimonial football match opposition has been confirmed as Ross County FC.

The match will be played on Tuesday 31st August at the Harmsworth Park, Wick with a 7.30pm kick off.

The Craig Shearer Testmonial Committee are grateful to Ross County FC for agreeing to support this fixture and are equally excited by the prospect of welcoming a squad which is expected to include many of the players who were involved in last seasons Scottish Cup Final.

Alistair Ross said "Following the disappointment of realising the financial implications of bringing Dunfermline Athletic FC to Wick, we are very excited at the prospect of welcoming Ross County FC to the Harmsworth Park. We would like to thank them for agreeing to participate in the testimonial fixture in recognition of Craig. I know he is very excited about the fixture and we hope that his contribution to Wick Academy FC over the past 11 years will be recognised by the supporters."

"With such a tough opposition, we are hopeful that a good showing is enjoyed by all on the night, not least Craig and his family."

"Opportunities are available for supporters to express their appreciation through the match programme. Further information is available from any member of the Craig Shearer Testimonial Committee or in the next Wick Academy FC match programme."

(Committee: Alistair Ross, David Dunn, Evan Center, George Mackay, Gordon Stewart, Stewart Busby, Walter Mowat)

Thurso 2 - WAFC 2

Thurso gave Academy a really good pre-season run-out today. Thurso took the lead after 13 minutes, Jamie Mackenzie won the ball in the middle of the park and drove down the left, his cut back found the unmarked Mark Nicol and his low effort found the bottom corner from 15 yards
Within a minute wick nearly got back on level terms, Sam Mackay played a long ball out to Craig Shearer and he put the ball into the box to Richard Macadie and his driven effort was blocked by Michael Gray in the Thurso goal.

Wick got back on level terms after 23 minutes, Davie Allan was played in one on one with keeper Gray, Gray took Allan down and Sam Mackay took the penalty and drove the ball down the middle.

Wick went ahead after 36 minutes Davie Allan was tackled on the edge of the box but the ball fell kindly to his brother Ross Allan, he cut inside onto his left before dispatching a low effort into the corner of the net.

After 57 minutes wick really should have added a third, Ross Allan played a neat one two with Sam Mackay,  Allan then found Gary Weir, Weir had time to steady himself and pick his spot but he curled the ball wide of the post

On the hour mark Kyle Ross set up James Murray for a chance for Thurso but from 25 yards he screwed his shot wide.

Thurso got back on level terms after 86 minutes, Gary Manson appeared to handle the ball on the line after a corner and this resulted in the ref awarding a penalty, Mark Nicol stepped up and coolly placed the ball low to the keepers right
