Academy travel to Station Park today to take on Nairn. This
is a massive game for the Scorries as Nairn have games in hand over us and
could over-haul our lead at the top if they can string together a run of wins.
Nairn have just the one regular missing today, Steven Ellis.
Academy are without the services of Stewart Ross who is on holiday and Bryan
McKiddie.
In the dugout Tichie and Gordon Connelly have the reigns as
gaffer Barry Wilson is also on holiday, one which he had all booked up before
he committed to taking the job.
Wick start with same line-up that beat Inverurie Locos last
weekend.
Academy draw first blood after only 6 minutes. Sam Mackay is
fouled on the edge of the Nairn penalty area. Sam picked himself up and floated
the free-kick unto the box where Lukasz Geruzel rose highest and he headed home
from 6 yards out.
0 - 1
Nairn have their first half-sniff on 11 minutes. A long ball
is played up to Connor Gethins and he had a pop from 25 yards out that went
over the cross bar.
At the other end Gary Manson played a pass to Stevie
Cunningham in the middle of the park and Cunningham drove forward and he too
had a drive for 25 yards out that went over the cross-bar.
Nairn win a corner on 17 minutes. Gethins swung it into the
mix and Martin MacDonald got a good head to the ball but directed it into the
arms of Michael Gray.
The Wee County square the score on 25 minutes. Sam Mackay
gave the ball away to Gethins just inside the Wick half. Gethins advanced,
found some space and from 25 yards out he struck a shot that went over the top of
Gray and into the top left hand corner of the net.
1 - 1
Just past the half-hour Nairn win a free-kick just inside
the Academy half. Gregg Main found John Cameron just inside the Wick box and
his effort is blocked for a corner.
4 minutes later Nairn work the ball from left to right and
Robbie Duncanson laid it on for Gregg Main and his driven effort across goal flew
wide with no takers.
A minute later and Nairn almost take the lead. Academy concede
a soft free kick which is taken by Gethins. The ball is missed by everyone in
the box and rebounds off the post.
4 minutes from half time and Academy regain the lead.
Richard Macadie takes a corner on the right. He fails to get the ball over the
first defender and it bounced back to him. He laid the ball across to Sam Mackay,
who teed up Stevie Cunningham and from 25 yards he unleashed a cracker that
keeper Callum Donaldson got hands to but couldn't stop the ball landing on the
bottom corner of the net.

Half Time - Nairn County 1 - Wick Academy 2
Academy create the first chance of the second half with 3
minutes played. Macadie played it into Allan and from 13 yards out he flicked
it over the defence and it smacked off the cross-bar.
On the hour Gregg Main has a shot at goal for Nairn. Alan
Farquhar slid in and knocked the ball back to Michael Gray who picked it up. Controversially
referee Douglas Ross awards an indirect free kick for a pass-back. The free kick was blocked on the line and the
re-bound fell to Robbie Duncanson and his effort was blocked for a corner.
On 63 minutes Nairn win a free-kick on the left hand side of
the park. Gethins took the free kick and fired it into the box for Martin MacDonald to get a slight touch to send it home.
2 - 2
More controversy in the 67th minute with referee
Ross again in the centre of it all. The
ball goes out for a throw in and Richard Macadie tried to get the ball from
Glenn Main. There was a bit of a tussle and Macadie kicked out. Referee Ross ran over and flashed
Macadie a straight red card. This is the first time Macadie has been sent off
in his career.
Academy have a penalty claim turned down when Gary Weir looked to have
been bundled over in the box.
It is all kicking off at Station Park as Nairn also go down to 10 men
with 5 minutes left to pay. Michael Morrison gets his marching orders
for a tackle through the back of substitute Gary Weir.
Nairn score in the last minute of the game with an unbelievable
goal from Connor Gethins. Craig Shearer was booked for a foul 45 yards from the
Academy goal. Gethins took it and humped it into the Academy box where it yet
again missed everyone and landed in the back of the net!
