Ian Munro
Ian 'Zeeky' Munro has a long association with Wick Academy Football Club,

Ian made his debut as an 18 year old in the North Caledonain League  in season 1978/79. He missed only one season for Academy, when he played for Bunillidh Thistle in 1984/85, and then continued playing with Academy until 1994, usually on the right wing.
In 1989 he shocked Huntly with a 3rd minute goal in the Qualifying Cup at Christie Park but his effort was in vain and Academy were unlucky to loose 3-2.

From 1994 he took his coaching certificates and assisted Pat Miller at Halkirk and has since been involved as a coach with Academy since 1999.

Ian took over as co-manager with Tichie in January 2007 following the departure of Peter Budge.

Ian and co-manager Tichie were voted as Highland League Managers of the year for season 2009/10 after steering Academy to a 5th place finish in the table, our highest ever league position, after a 10 game winning streak.

Alex Lamb

Went from school in Wick to Ross County where he captained the Under 18 team. Missed a year through illness and was released. However since making his Academy debut against Brora in August 2002 he has been staking a claim for a regular place in the Academy defence.

Work commitments currently rule Alex out for some games, but he is a valuable squad player.

 Alan Farquhar

Talented young midfielder. Featured for Brora Rangers in the SHFL during his teen years and also started for his village team Castletown helping them to win the CAFA Division 1 and reach the finals of the highly regarded SAFA "Highland Amateur Cup".

With North Reserve Caledonian League side Halkirk United  Alan helped the side to a haul of Cup triumphs especially season 2008-/09. Its been no secret that the current WAFC Management and previous Managers have tried unsuccessfully to sign Alan, thankfully for WAFC he has decided it's time to display his enormous talent at a higher level.

Alan is a very technically gifted and confident player and was a regular starter for season 2009/10. Is a big hit with the fans and was voted last season's young player of the year.

A genuine box to box midfielder. One of the most under-rated players in the Highland League, consistently giving 100% and winning the supporters' player of the year award in season 2005/2006, and the players' player of the year award in seasons 2006/07 and 07/08.

Signing in 2002, he has settled well into Highland League football. A strong running confident player on the right side of midfield, with some important goals to his credit.

Gary Weir

'Chucky' is a raw never say die talent from Lybster with a keen eye for goal.

Made his debut at age 15 coming on as a substitute in a North of Scotland Cup tie away to Nairn in January 2003.

Coming into his 9th season with the Academy senior team, he has scored some vital goals for the Club.

Made big strides in season 2008/09 when he was the clubs top goal scorer with 11 league and 8 cup goals. Had a quieter season last year but still chipped in with 7 league goals and a couple of vital strikes in Academy's Scottish Cup run.

With the ball at his feet defenders find him a tricky customer to deal with.

 Grant Campbell

Signed at start of season 2009/10. The Wick born youngster is currently studying Accountancy at Aberdeen University.

He had trials with Aberdeen FC before eventually signing for Ross County FC. He was released from RCFC in 2008 before going onto play for Aberdeen Junior side Banchory St. Ternans FC.

His performances alerted the WAFC Management Team and various Aberdeen Junior sides most notably Sunnybank FC, however he opted to sign for the Scorries.

Grant is a very intelligent pacy defender who can play on the right or left side of the defence, and will get up and down the flanks to support his team mates.

Known as Joe is an Ex. WAFC youth player who was signed from Brora Rangers FC in 2008\09. This powerful uncompromising young player is comfortable in either a defensive or midfield position.

He will most certainly add a physical edge to the team but is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and has been known to score some terrific distance strikes.

Injuries have resulted in him missing the last two full seasons, but he has been back at pre-season training this year and hopefully he can regain his full fitness and feature in the season ahead.

Talented young attacking midfielder with good pace and great close ball control.

Richard likes nothing better than getting forward and scoring goals and managed to bag 18 in total last season.

Has been a valuable addition to the squad and is a player the fans have taken too with his drive and determination to be successful.

In season 2006/07 Richard was voted joint players' player, supporters' player and young player of the year. In season 2008/09 he also picked up the season's supporters' player of the year award and the prestigious Highland Year player of the year award.

 Ross Allan

Signed on loan from Ross County FC in season 2009/10 for an initial period of 6 months. The Thurso born youngster originally came through the Caithness United Youth System before signing with Ross County FC.

RCFC youth Coach David Kirkwood informed the club that they have high hopes for Ross and that Senior Level is within his capabilities. He has only recently celebrated his sixteenth Birthday, however this exciting young talent has the ability to play his part in this seasons SHFL.

Like his brother David he is also very pacy and can weigh in with his fair share of goals, he is very adaptable in that he can play wide right or left and can also play in the striking role.

I think the fans will appreciate his energy and willingness to work for his team mates.

 Sam Mackay

New signing for Hughes and Munro  last season. 21 year old Sam is a former Scotland schoolboy international, and had 5 seasons with Brora at Dudegon Park before signing with Deveronvale last season. A player with an abundance of talent that can play in mid-field or up front, and he'll give Academy some great options.

Sam is one of the hottest young properties in the league and was the Sunday Post Young Player of the year in 2008/09 and repeated the feat again last season.

Holds the unique distinction amongst the current crop of SHFL players of having scored for Scotland both at Schoolboy and Semi Professional level. During his spell at Brora he played over 100 matches and became one of a select few who have been handed a captains armband whilst in their teens.

Was Academy's second highest scorer last season hitting the net on 20 occasions.
