Davie will take charge of the senior team when they return for pre-season training in June 2011. Davie has worked as head of youth with Raith Rovers, Rangers and Ross County. He started his playing career when signed by Davie Clark in 1983 for East Fife where he made over 100 appearances, and then went on to play for Rangers, Hearts, Airdrieonians and Raith Rovers where he won a league Cup medal in 1994. He also won a Scotland under 21 Cap where he played under Craig Brown. He has worked under some of the biggest names in Scottish football including Graeme Souness, Walter Smith, Alex MacDonald, Joe Jordan, Tommy McLean and Jimmy Nicholl.
Davie has built upon his football playing experience through his time as head of youth coach at Raith Rovers, Rangers and Ross County, where he has demonstrated an excellent level of coaching ability and man-management skills. His coaching credentials to date include a UEFA Pro license. These qualities were a major contributory factor in the selection process for the Wick Academy Manager’s position.
Davie’s passion and desire to join Wick Academy FC was evident during all discussions the Club had with him. The Wick Academy FC committee are united in their view that Davie has the proven ability, coaching experience and aptitude to improve the team, and are delighted to have such a highly respected coach working with the Club. Wick Academy FC is both delighted and excited by David’s appointment and we hope the Supporters will be too. We feel this appointment illustrates that Wick Academy FC are determined and very serious about becoming a stronger force in Scottish Highland League Football.
Davie has inherited a talented young squad and hopefully he will maintain the continuity of development and to continue the positive work initiated by both Richard and Ian. We feel with David’s experience he will enhance the quality of the current squad and help them develop both individually and collectively.
Once again, the Club would like to thank Richard and Ian for all their hard work, commitment and for the Club’s most successful period in its SHFL history and therefore we would like to wish them every success for the future. The Club hopes that both Richard and Ian will however remain involved with the club in some capacity as they are both Wick Academy lads through and through. Wick Academy FC would also like to thank the other candidates who applied for the manager’s position.
