April 2006 - Team and Club News

Friday 28th April:
Academy will travel to Cove tomorrow without several first team players. Gary Manson is still suspended, Don McMillan is injured, and Craig Shearer, Alex Lamb and Graeme Reid are all unavailable due to other commitments.

Thursday 27th April:
Academys last game of the season, away to Fort William, has been set for Sunday the 7th May. This game may be key in deciding Academys final league position, as it's still possible for Academy to finish in 11th place, above Lossiemouth and Rothes.

Wednesday 26th April:
Three Academy contracted players have been granted their release from the club. Gavin Henderson and Paul McCallum were both release last week, and the paper-work for Mark Nichols release will be processed this week.

Tuesday 25th April:
Unfortunately young Academy midfielder Murray Coghill broke his leg in 3 places during a match last night for Thurso Acs. The club would like to wish Murray a full and speedy recovery.

Saturday 15th April:
Another free weekend for Academy but Inverurie did us a favour by beating Rothes 4 - 0. That's Rothes now played the same number of games as us, but we are ahead of them on goal difference. Details of the league run-in for 11th, 12th and 13th spots is here.

Tuesday 18th April:
Academy seek new manager as the club decide not to continue with Alistair Budge. Read the complete story here.

Saturday 15th April:
This is a free weekend for Academy, they have no game due to ongoing cup matches. We have two games left to play this season. Both away against Fort William and Cove, but dates for them will not be anounced until after the cup games have sorted themselves out.

Lossiemouth beat Brora 2 - 0 today, so go 3 ponts clear of Academy and Rothes into 11 place. Academy and Lossiemouth both have 2 games to play, but Rothes still has a game in hand. If Academy are to re-claim 11th spot it is vital that they beat Fort William, and may require to take something out of the Cove game. The league run-in table has been updated here

Sunday 7th  - Highland league Select:
Martin Gunn played today in a Highland League Select side the beat an East Of Scotland select by 2 - 1. The game was played at Victoria Park Buckie. Well done to Martin in getting selected and included in the game.

Friday 7th April  - WAFC v Keith:
Tomorrows cup game against Keith is in doubt due to the wet weather we've had again this week. A pitch inspection is due at 7:30pm tonight.

Update:- A great effort tonight by a band of willing helpers has increased the odds of the game taking place tomorrow:-

If it stays dry through the night there is a now very good chance that the game will go ahead. See the photo gallery for more pictures of tonights work here.

Update No 2 (Sat): This mornings pitch inspection at 6.30am shows the pitch with a light covering of frost but the ground was soft. Sky's overhead are clear with little cloud. Todays cup game with Keith will go ahead at the third time of asking barring a complete turn in the weather.

Come on the Scorries!!

Saturday 1st April  - Fort William v WAFC:
Martin Gunn is available for selection again, back from injury, but unfortuately the game at Fort William is cancelled due to a water-logged pitch.
