Vale up to eighth as Academy game is rained off

Deveronvale jumped up two places to eighth in the Highland League table after a convincing 3-0 home victory over Clachnacuddin on Saturday.

Michele Lombardi headed Vale in front after 18 minutes and Craig Cowie added a second four minutes later. Ten minutes from half-time a volley from Scott Henry gave the Banff side a three-goal cushion and that proved to be the end of the scoring.

The result lifted Vale above Lossiemouth and Academy, with the Scorries dropping to 10th place.

Academy's scheduled home fixture against Huntly was postponed after several days of heavy rain led to a waterlogged pitch. The match has been rearranged for May 19th.

Formartine United's home fixture against Lossiemouth was also postponed, along with Inverurie Locos' trip to Rothes.

In the only other league game to beat the weather, a headed goal by Graham Johnston was enough to give Fraserburgh a 1-0 home win against Fort William. After a run of heavy defeats in recent weeks, this was a much more spirited display by the Lochaber men who came close to snatching a late equaliser.

Buckie Thistle and Cove Rangers will meet in the final of the Breedon Aggregates Highland League Cup on May 12th after they came through their respective semi-finals against Keith and Turriff United.

Shawn Scott was the Buckie hero as he netted a hat-trick in their 3-1 victory over Keith at Victoria Park. Andy MacAskill replied for the Maroons, who had Gary McNamee sent off.

Two superb free kicks by Paul Emslie set Cove on their way to a 3-0 win against Turriff at Allan Park. Jordan Leyden added the third.
