A make-shift Academy team had too much today for visitors Rothes and cruised to a 7-0 win. Gordon Connelly had 7 regulars missing; Gary Weir and Sam Mackay were suspended following their red cards against Lossiemouth. Steven Anderson, Grant Steven, Grant Campbell, Richard Macadie and Sean McCarthy were all unavailable.
Rothes also struggled with several regulars missing and they drafted in 55 year old Gordon Younie who played for the full 90 minutes.
That gave the chance for young Danny McCarthy to make his first start between the sticks. Craig Shearer, Stewart Ross and Michael Gray rolled back the years as they came back to help out, and Owen Christie and Ryan Campbell from the under 17's also got on the teamsheet.
Marc MacGregor got a start up front and didn't disappoint as he bagged 4 goals and was awarded man of the match. Other scorers were Davie Allan, Joe Seven and substitute Colin Macrae grabbed his first goal in Academy colours.
Academy opened the scoring in the 9th minute when Alan Hughes free kick was flicked on by Danny Mackay which found the foot of Marc MacGregor to guide the ball into the net from 10 yards out.

Rothes could have equalised when Derek Thomson launched a sensational effort from 35 yards which looked as if it was going to dip over the head of teenage keeper Danny McCarthy, but he went air-born to make a finger-tip save to put the ball over the bar.
MacGregor then doubled Academy's lead when Stewart Ross' header was blocked by the Rothes defence but from 20 yards the youngster from John O'Groats thundered the rebound into the net with the goal of the game.

MacGregor completed his hat-trick two minutes later when Davie Allan's cross from the left wing found him in the six yard box and despite his first strike being blocked he made no mistake with the rebound.

Davie Allan made it 4-0 in the 53rd minute when he beat the offside trap to run on to Ross' pass and calmly struck the ball past Matthew Mackie.

Midway through the second half Michael Steven latched on to Ross Allan's cross to score from ten yards to make it 5-0 with a neat finish.

It was also a memorable moment of Helmsdale teenager Colin Macrae who came off the bench and after being on the pitch for only 5 minutes he scored his first goal for the club. Gary Manson's shot from 15 yards was saved by Mackie but Macrae was alert to the rebound to find the net from 10 yards to make it six.

MacGregor completed the rout two minutes from time when he scored again from close range to send the Scorries into seventh heaven.
