Fraserburgh advance to the next round of the Challenge Cup after defeating Academy 2 -1 today at Bellslea. McBride and West gave the Broch a two goal lead before Weir pulled one back for the Scorries with nine minutes left to play. This set up a thrilling end to the game, but it boiled over with three minutes left with Michael Stephen and Don MacMillan both red carded.

The first half was a fairly even affair with Academy having as much of the play as Fraserburgh, but rarely threatened the Broch goal. Fraserburgh opened the scoring with 39 minutes played. Stephen whipped in a cross from the left hand side of the field, Morrice flicked it on and McBryde was on hand at the back post to side foot it home. MacMillan did get something on it, but the ball ended up nestled into the side netting.

Academy had a good chance to draw level on the hour mark. Macadie fired in a  corner kick that Shearer got a glancing header onto but the ball went into the side netting.

Fraserburgh doubled their lead in the 70th minute. Stephen took a corner from the right that went just over the head of Farquhar in the middle of the Academy box for West to run onto and head home with a glancing header into the corner of the net

With nine minutes left Academy pulled a goal back Weir capitalised on a short back-pass by Hay and he nipped in to round the keeper and slot home into an empty net.

2 - 1

With three minutes of the game left Lamb fouled Stephen and referee Cobb awarded a free-kick. Shearer and Stephen then had a mini-wrestling match for the ball, and Stephen pushed Shearer over. MacMillan ran 30 yards out of his net and got involved, again trying to get the ball and ended up pushing Morris. Cobb gave Stephen his second yellow of the game, and MacMillan a straight red.

In the last action of the game Wick almost salvaged an equaliser. Beagrie held back Weir on the half way line. Farquhar fired the free kick into the box and it was headed clear by the Broch defence before being fired back towards the back post where Weir and Shearer found themselves in the middle of a scramble for the ball but it was knocked wide of target for a bye-kick.

Full time 2 - 1

Wick's next game in on Wednesday night against Golspie Sutherland in the ITP North of Scotland Cup, but Fraserburgh visit the Harmsworth Park for the next league game on the 16th.
