The hair-dryer treatment had to be unleashed for Wick Academy to salvage a point at Keith on Saturday.
A disappointing first half performance ensured that the Scorries players would be treated to a very rare sight – boss Tom McKenna reading the riot act.
They were fortunate to only be 1-0 down at the break thanks to Michael Selfridge’s strike.
Wick did battle back to take a 2-1 lead via Gary Manson’s penalty and a superb individual effort by Jack Halliday. Craig Gunn’s foul gave away a penalty at the other end and allowed Cammy Keith to rifle home from the spot to tie it up at 2-2.
McKenna said: “I’m not one of those people who shouts and screams at players but, given how the first half went, something needed to be said.
“For me to do something like that, the team would have to play very poorly to get that reaction from me.
“I was disappointed with the first half. Yes, we created more clear-cut chances, but Keith dominated possession and their work-rate, desire and intensity was much better and stronger than ours.
“Half time came and apart from what I had to say to them, I changed the formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and that allowed Davie Allan to see more of the ball and get at Keith.
“He made a number of mazy runs with one of them leading to our equaliser as he was fouled while dribbling his way into the Keith box.
“Gary scored the penalty and then Jack timed his run perfectly to advance in on goal and produce a fine finish.
“Both Keith goals were completely avoidable in my book. Had we started the first half the same way we began the second then we could have won the game. I’m dis-appointed not to have done so.”
