A beautiful sunny day at Allan Park and the game has just kicked off. The Academy squad travelled down last night and stayed in Aberdeen, so they should be as well prepared as possible for the game.
Gary Weir is out with injury, but David Mowat is back in the starting line-up to join his defensive team-mates Andrew MacLeod and Alan Sinclair.
Academy started brightly and had the first chance of the game within 2 minutes. Gary Manson sent a dangerous cross in from the right that ran across the 6 yard box, and David Mowat was inches away from turning it in, but just couldn't connect.
5 minutes later Kevin Webster for Cove cut infield past 3 Academy defenders and had a right foot low driven shot at goal but More made a good diving save.
In the 18th minute some good Academy pressure saw Manson cross from the right that keeper Windrum fisted away from his near-post. Andrew MacLeod won the loose ball and forced a corner. Gary Manson collected the ball from the corner-kick and weighted a great ball over the Cove defence for Martin Gunn who tried to chip the keeper from about 15 yards out, but his attempt wasn't high enough, and Windrum collected.
Cove take the lead against the run of play in the 21st minute in what could be described as a freak goal. Jamie Watt managed to get his head to a long cleared ball, and sent a looping header towards goal that More managed to get a hand to, but unfortunately couldn't keep out.
1 - 0
Bryan McKiddie picked up a soft booking in the 40th minute for kicking the ball away after referee Pirie awarded a free kick.
Cove almost doubled their lead 2 minutes from the half-time whistle. Robbie Henderson delivered a piercing pass through the middle of the Academy defence to send Jamie Watt in on goal, but Watt blasted his effort wide across the face of goal.
So Academy are still well in the game, with good possession in mid-field, but the final ball just seems to be going astray.
Half time 1 - 0
With 10 minutes of the second half played Academy make a tactical substitution, with Bryan McKiddie coming off for Stewart Ross. Ross is sent up-front, and Martin Gunn is dropped back a little.
This almost pays off as within a minute of being on the park Ross gets a shot on target from 18 yards that Windrum is forced to save.
Cove double their lead in the 65th minute when Jamie Watt managed to get above the Wick defence to nod home his second of the game with a back-header at the back post from a corner-kick.
2 - 0
Academy make another change in an attempt to get back into the game, Murray Coghill coming on for Gary Farquhar, and Gary Manson is pushed up-front to join Stewart Ross.
With about 15 minutes left Cove deliver what could be the killer goal, with defender Clark Bain firing home with a well struck volley just to the right of the 18 yard box.
3 - 0
A minute later and any thoughts of an Academy come-back are surely snuffed out as Eric Watson gets his head to a crossed ball from 6 yards out to steer the ball past More.
4 - 0
Full Time 4 - 0
So a bit of a disappointing end to Academy's Cup run and it's back to league business again next Saturday when high-flyers Buckie visit the Harmsworth Park. They got a real fright today away to Fort William as it took a last minute winner from Andy Low to win the game 2 - 1 to keep their title race on track.
