A hat-trick from Buckie's Andy Low today keeps them in top spot. Academy missed some good early chances in the game, including a Stewart Ross penalty kick, but clinical finishing by Buckie sealed the three points.
Wick had the first attempt on goal within the 3rd minute. Macadie whipped in a dangerous corner and Macleod rose above the defence to get his header on target that Main saved
Buckie opened the scoring just before the ¼ hour mark. Tony Low delivered a perfect corner to the back-post, and Graeme Stewart got head to it and bundled it over the line.
0 - 1
Buckie doubled their lead 4 minutes later. Referee Hamill awarded a really soft free-kick just outside the Academy box, penalising Macadie for trying to take the ball off Craig MacMillan. Davidson rolled the ball to Andy Low from the free kick and he curled his shot into Mores top left hand corner.
0 - 2
Despite being 2 goals down Academy kept playing their football, and in 24 minutes won another corner. Macadie delivered it into the box and found Mowat who had slipped his marker, but he sent his glancing header just past Main's right hand post.
In 28 minutes Mowat went on another surge up-field and he released the ball to Manson who drove onto the box and was clipped by Shewan. Referee Hamill pointed to the spot, but Main pulled out a great diving save to deny Stewart Ross.
Academy spurned a further three good chances before the half-time break.
Farquhar fired a wicked free-kick into the Buckie box and Ross steamed into the area un-marked but just failed to connect with his header. Shearer did manage to just get contact on the ball, but the Buckie defence cleared the danger.
That was followed by a great move with Shearer dinking a ball over the top of the Buckie defence for Macadie. Main rushed out to narrow the angle but Macadie seemed to be caught in two minds and ended up firing his attempt straight at the Buckie keeper, and he cleared with his feet.
The final action saw Ross driving into the box with the ball at feet, but Main pushed him wide. Ross managed to nick around him, and crossed to Manson but he lifted his attempt over the top of the cross-bar from the left hand edge of the box.
Half time 0 - 2
11 minutes after the re-start Mowat sliced an attempted clearance high into the air inside the Academy box. More came out and tried to punch the ball clear, but in the process he flattened Craig MacMillan. Referee Hamill booked More for the challenge, and awarded the second penalty of the game. Andy Low took the P-K and sent the ball low into the right hand corner of the net, with More committed in the opposite direction.
0 - 3
Academy came close to pulling one back in the 64th minute when Ross showed some great wing-play before playing Shearer into the edge of the box, but Main tipped Shearers attempt over the top of the cross-bar.
David Macrea came on for Andy Matheson in the 66th minute, and he made an immediate impact as he managed to bundle a Davidson free-kick over the line.
0 - 4
Academy took Murray Coghill on for Ross in the 69th minute, and pushed Manson up-front to join him.
Buckie went nap in the 72nd minute. Shaun Sinclair was adjudged to have committed a foul on the edge of the Academy box. The ball was played into the box, and after a bit of a scramble Andy Low got onto the end of it and managed to flick it into the net. It looked to have taken a small deflection on its way, but Low claimed the goal for his hat-trick.
0 - 5
Heads could have easily been down by now, but Academy kept plugging away, and managed to pull a goal back in the 76th minute. Farquhar caught the Buckie back-line on their heels as he flicked the ball over their heads, and Macadie took one touch to get around keeper Main before slotting home.
1 - 5
A minute later and the play was back at the other end of the park, this time More denied Andy Low his 4th goal of the game with a brilliant diving save to palm the ball wide of target.
Academy managed to pull another back in the last minute when Macadie played a pass to substitute Murray Coghill in acres of space and he coolly curled the ball past an outstretched Main into the corner of the net.
2 - 5
Final score 2 - 5
Apart from their goals Buckie only had a couple of other attempts on target, so they really capitalised on their chances, whilst Wick missed some really good opportunities, especially in the first half, that if taken may have applied a little more pressure on the visitors, but it just wasn't to be.
Academy now have important games ahead with Forres away next weekend, and home to Clach the week after. Academy currently have club captain Martin Gunn and top goal-scorer Gary Weir out with injury, so hopefully they can get themselves fit again for these games to give managers Munro and Hughes a full squad to select from.
