Match Report

Academy entertained Huntly today, their first home league game since beating Rothes 7-1 on the 12th of September. A series of Cup games and away ties have filled the card since then, so it was good to get back to home business. Unfortunately the Scorries were a bit off colour today, and Huntly collected all 3 points with 3 unanswered goals.

The kick-off for today's game was delayed for 15 minutes after the Huntly team bus broke down. It was Academy that nearly opened the scoring after just 6 minutes had been played. Sam Mackay drove up the left wing and delivered an inch perfect cross into the heart of the Huntly box, right onto the head of Richard Macadie but he nodded his header wide of keeper Robertson's left post when it looked easier to score.

Mackay threatened again 2 minutes later when he snapped up a loose ball from Neil Reid but as he turned inside the box to get a shot off Kenny McKenzie coved back and nicked it off his toes.

Huntly went more or less straight back up the park with Michael Ewen up the left flank. He slipped the ball inside to Andrew Fraser and he picked his spot drilling a low shot into the corner of the net past Alan Bokas.

0 - 1

Michael Ewen was next to have an attempt on goal when he cut o0n from the right and fired a dangerous effort on target but Bokas made a good save.

Academy were dealt a blow in the 16th minute when captain Martin Gunn landed awkwardly and went down injured. He was carried off with what looked like a twisted right ankle, and he was replaced with Alan Farquhar.

With half an hour played Huntly nearly capitalised on a short back pass from Stewart Ross. Ewen nipped in and nicked the ball but he screwed his shot wide of the target.

Academy went back up-field and Craig Shearer threaded a pass through the Huntly back-line for Davie Cowie who ran into the box but didn't connect with his shot and sent a his weak effort straight into the arms of keeper Robertson.

In the 36th minute Academy strung together a series of 12 passes in an excellent flowing move ending in Sam Mackay on the right who sent a curling ball to the back post that went just wide of target. From the kick out Academy regained possession and Shearer again created a chance by slipping in Macadie but his shot was blocked by keeper Robertson for a corner kick.

Huntly hit with a sucker punch a minute later when Mark Gray floated the ball over the top of Grant Campbell, and Michael Ewen gathered it and beat Bokas with another low strike into the corner of the net.

0 - 2

Huntly almost struck again just before the break when Michael Ewen and Andrew Fraser linked up well, bit Fraser fired his attempt just wide of the post as Alex Lamb did just enough to cover back and put some pressure on him

Half Time 0 - 2

Huntly struck with the killer blow with only six minutes of the second half played. Stuart Soane fired a wicked effort on target from the left corner of the box. Bokas flung himself at the ball and blocked it on the line, but Craig Dorrat pounced in the loose ball and smacked it home at the back post.

0 - 3

Nothing seemed to click for the Scorries, and their efforts were further frustrated when Sam Mackay fired in a shot that looked goal-bound but it took a deflection off Neil Reid and went just wide of the target.

Ross Allan came on for David Cowie and he wasn't on long before he wriggled away from his marker at the edge of the box and laid it on for Macadie but Robertson save his right foot shot.

It just wasn't to be for the Scorries today and more salt was rubbed into the wounds when Stewart Ross looked to have pulled one back in the 78th minute but his powerful header was cleared off the by Mark Gray.

Huntly substitute Ross McKenzie looked sharp when he came on and he had scorcher of an effort on the 79th minute that Bokas did really well to tip over the top of the cross-bar.

Both Mackay and Manson had further attempts on target that didn't really threaten to beat Robertson before referee Douglass Ross blew for full-time.

Full time 0 - 3
