Wick Academy joined the Scottish Highland Football League in season 1994-95 and today was their 500th league game. Despite having more chanced to win the game than you could count Academy couldn't hit the net and it was Lossiemouth that ran out 1-0 winners.
Davie Kirkwood still doesn't have his full squad available for selection with David Allan still suspended, Michael Steven injured, and Shaun Sinclair on holidays.
Gary Weir had the first attempt for the Scorries when he found some space in the middle of the Lossie box, but a last ditch tackle by a Lossie defender nicked the ball off his toes just as he was about to pull the trigger.
Sam Macaky was next up and went one-on-one with the Coasters keeper Darren McConachie but he didn't make clean contact with the ball and hit is straight at the advancing keeper.
Weir again had a great chance to put Academy a goal up when he got a shot on target but keeper McConachie dived across his line and tipped the ball clear of the target.
The half ended with Richard Macadie executing an over-head kick that went just high of target.
Half time 0 - 0
Lossie should have taken the lead shortly after the re-start when Craig Morrison had a free header but he couldn't direct it on target.
At the other end Academy's rotten luck in front of goal continued when Richard Macadie fired the ball across goal but none of the bodies rushing in on goal could make contact to turn the ball home.
Lossiemouth opened the scoring on the 71st minute. Colin Charlesworth fired a shot on goal that James More parried out and Ross Archibald snapped up the loose ball and turned it home.
1 - 0
McConnachie was yet again on hand to deny Richard Macadie when he pulled off a great save to keep the home side a goal to the good.
Academy deserved something out of the game given the number of chances they created and their luck was typified in the last chance of the game when a Stevie Cunningham flashing header beat McConnachie but the ball took the paint off the outside of the right hand post.
Final score 1 - 0
