A derby day crowd of approximately 1,200 witnessed Academy claim the scalp of Brora Rangers with a fine 3-0 win, extending Academy's unbeaten home League run to 18 games. Gary Weir was on holiday so his position was filled by Lukasz Geruzel and the big Polish striker made the most of the opportunity grabbing a double. Sam Mackay also hit the net to finish off a fine display by the Scorries.
A minutes silence was impeccably observed by both sets of fans before the game in respect of Jamie Gunn.
Academy started kicking down the Harmsworth slope and in the first attack Sam Mackay broke down the right flank, hit the bye-line and crossed a dangerous ball into the Brora box that was cleared by David Hind.
A minute later Stevie Cunningham crossed the ball into the mix and Richard Macadie had a free header but couldn't keep the attempt down and it went over the top of the Brora cross-bar.
Brora should have opened the scoring in their first attack. Gary Manson gave the ball up to Ross Grant who played Steven Mackay in on goal. Michael Gray was scrambling back onto his line but Mackay fluffed his effort sending it past the base of Gray's left hand post.
13 minutes Lukasz Geruzel had a shot from the edge of the box, after being played in by Richard Macadie, which Ally Ridgers blocked. The re-bound came back to Geruzel but his second attempt bounced onto the top of the cross-bar and over for a goal-kick.
Sam Mackay fired a shot on target 10 minutes later but Ridgers got down to his left to make a comfortable save.
Academy came very close to scoring in their next attack. Davie Allan had his shot blocked. Macadie picked up the rebound and watched in agony as his shot clipped off the outside of Ridgers left hand post.
Academy opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Richard Macadie picked up the ball in mid-field, following some slack Brora passing, and threaded it through the middle of the Brora defensive back-line to the feet of Lukasz Geruzel. He held off his marker and drove into the box before firing a right foot shot from 15 yards out past an outstretched Ridgers.

Geruzel was proving a hand-full for the Brora defense and he did well down the right flank before crossing a great ball that was half-cleared. Stevie Cunningham picked it up on the edge of the box but fired his right foot shot straight down the throat of keeper Ridgers.
Academy almost doubled their advantage 3 minutes before the break. Sam Mackay broke into the box on the left, turned his marker and fired a decent attempt on target that Ridgers blocked with his feet. The re-bound came back to Mackay but he couldn't keep his second attempt on target and it flew across goal and past the post.
In the last attack of the half Mackay once again broke through the Brora defense and had the ball in the net but it was chalked off for off-side.
Half Time - Wick Academy 1 - Brora Rangers 0
Brora made a good start to the second half but couldn't convert the possession into a goal-threat, indeed it was Academy who came closest after 12 minutes in. The ball was played over the top of the Brora defense to Davie Allan. He squared for Mackay but the ball was just behind him and Mackay dragged his attempt past the post.
Brora kept pressing and Mackay played a slack pass coming out of defense and it took a couple of great blocks by Academy defenders to deny Brora as they pulled the shutters down on Brora's attempts on goal.
Academy won a free kick 25 yards from goal in the 66th minute after David Hind took down Geruzel from behind. Macadie floated it over the top of the Brora wall to the near post and Michal Steven looked as if he was going to turn it in but Russell Duncan just got the ball first and he turned it behind for a corned. The corner was swung in and after ping-pong in the Brora box it was half cleared and fell to Mackay but he smoked his effort over the cross-bar.
On the 67th minute Alan Farquhar took down Ross Grant, and Farquhar was booked for the challenge. Steven Mackay took the free kick and it whistled just over the Academy cross-bar.
Steven Mackay came close again in the next attack but Gray made a great block as he kicked away Mackay's shot that was on target.
Academy won a penalty kick in the 74th minute when Davie Allan hit the after-burners and surged into the Brora box. It looked as if he may have knocked the ball too far in front of himself but Russell Duncan contacted Allan who went down and referee Douglas Ross immediately pointed to the spot. Geruzel claimed the ball, composed himself and slotted home the spot kick with Ridgers diving to his left and ball landing into the right hand corner of the net.

Academy put the game to bed 6 minutes before full-time. They pushed the Brora defense back onto their heels before Geruzel slid the ball to Mackay who took a touch to settle himself before firing the ball from 8 yards out past Ridgers into the bottom left hand corner of his net.
3 - 0
Ross Grant had the final attempt of the game when he tried a 12 yard lob over the head of Gray, but he put too much gas on it and it went over the top of the cross-bar.
