Academy travel to Station Park today in confident mood following last weekends win against Formartine. Nairn will be looking for revenge with Academy beating them 5-3 at The Harmsworth back in November.
Based on form over the last 6 games Academy have the second best record in the league having won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1. The Wee County have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1. Nairn are at full strength today and Kirkwood starts with the same 11 as last weekend. This is expected to be a tough game.
A quiet start by both sides but Nairn open the scoring in the 11th minute.
Connor Gethins picked the ball up on the far right, turned inside on his left foot and from 25 yards out curled great a shot that came off the underside of the intersection of the cross-bar and post and bulged the top corner of the net.
1 - 0
The home side double their advantage with Gethins finding the net for his second of the game. Academy give away a free kick 25 yards out and Gethins struck a right foot shot that curled over the top of the Academy wall and into the top right hand corner of the net with Gray rooted to the spot.
2 - 0
5 minutes to half time and Academy haven't had a shot on target yet. Looks like it's a case of trying to keep it like that till half time and hopefully Kirkwood can sort things out over a half-time cuppa.
Half Time - Nairn 2 - WAFC 0
Academy make a change at half time with Martin Gunn coming on for Shaun Sinclair.
Gethins is at the heart of every Nairn attack. He picked the ball up wide and crossed to Duncanson who carried the ball forward before whipping it across into the Academy box and Gethins followed in to head home from 8 yards out for his hat-trick.
3 - 0
Weir comes on for Cunningham just past the hour mark.
Within 2 minutes Nairn look to have completely killed the game as Gethins again cut in off the wing and fired the ball square across the Academy back line for Steven Mackay to hit home with a left foot shot inside Gray's left hand post.
4 - 0
Nairn go down top 10 men with about 15 minutes left. Davie Allan broke free and is pulled back by David Hind and referee Ross flashes the red card.
Sam Mackay took the resulting free kick 25 yards from goal and his shot smacks off the under-side of the Nairn cross-bar.
Nairn go nap in the last kick of the game. The ball is cut into the box and Steven Mackay was first to it and he fired home inside Gray's right hand post from 12 yards for his second of the match.
5 - 0
Full Time - Nairn 5 - WAFC 0
The result today is Academy's heaviest defeat of the season and it's the first time since February 2011 that we have leaked 5 goals.
