The Scorries bounced back in some style after the last two disappointing League results to record a great 2-0 win over Formartine United. It's only the second time in 6 games at North Lodge Park where we have come north with all three points. Lukasz Geruzel bagged both goals after being handed a starting berth by Gordon Connelly, but the whole team played their part in a fine win.
In the early stages play followed an all too familiar pattern. Paul Napier twice unleashed well struck efforts but each time Academy keeper, Sean McCarthy caught the ball confidently. Wick also moved forward twice but both raids fizzled out 30 yards from goal.
Around 10 minutes there were more promising signs. A neat back heel by Geruzel sent Macadie sprinting along the left wing only to be called back by a hair's breadth offside decision. On the other side of the park, Davie Allan dashed into the box after playing a smart one-two with Michael Steven. Geruzel lobbed a high ball across to Macadie who nipped past Stephen Jeffrey. When his cross to the penalty spot was headed out, James Pickles was tackled and the ball broke to Sam Mackay who lofted it high over the bar.
After 18 minutes Davie Allan won the first corner of the match and from it, Michael Steven's powerful header flashed just inches wide.
Midway through the half a confident triangular passing move involving Geruzel, Davie Allan and Pickles had the home defenders chasing shadows as Michael Steven took the ball and steered it into the path of Macadie only for keeper Andy Shearer to snatch it 8 yards from goal.
Formartine rallied but a Neil McVitie header and a shot on the turn from Marek Madle went past McCarthy's left post. The Wick keeper saved a Madel header.
After a determined run and low cross from Davie Allan, Mackay's shot was blocked point -blank by Jeffrey.
On the half hour a Cammy Keith shot was deflected for a corner, then he was foiled 25 yards out in unorthodox fashion by McCarthy who headed the ball against the striker then cleared it into to touch with a powerful sliding tackle.
Shearer fisted away a Macadie corner and Mackay again scooped it over the bar.
Academy's efforts were rewarded just before the break. Ross Allan gained 40 yards with a surging run up the left and sent the resultant throw-in to Macadie who pushed the ball through a group of defenders ahead of Geruzel who drilled it low past Shearer.
0 - 1
Half Time - Formartine United 0 - Wick Academy 1
After halting a series of Formartine attacks, Academy went forward and Pickles was fouled on the left. Shearer dived to turn away Ross Allan's free kick. The corner kick was cleared but quickly returned to Macadie who fired it across the face of goal where Geruzel stabbed it in at the back post.
0 - 2
Academy coped comfortable with the home side's long ball aerial bombardment and also survived a few anxious moments. Madle fired a cross from the right along the six yard line, McCarthy finger-tipped a powerful Sam French header over and watched as a 30 yard Napier drive clipped the top of his bar.
Shearer did well to keep out efforts from Pickles and both Allan brothers.
Academy protected their two goal lead with intelligent possession play in stoppage time.

Our own form has been up and down since pre-season but I have to give credit to the players for their hard work on the training ground adjusting to the system of play I’m trying to instil. I thought it all came to fruition last weekend during our 2-0 away win at Formartine United. We looked very compact and our work ethic was tremendous allowing us to break up any Formartine attacks and we counter-attacked with lots of pace with two well taken goals finished by big Lukasz.
