Match Report

Wick Academy are still seeking a first win of the season after surrendering a two goal lead and returning empty-handed from Station Park on Wednesday night. Richard Hughes and Ross Suttar took the team today following the departure of Gordon Connelly last week. Goals from Richard Macadie and recent signing, Gordon McNab just after the half hour looked to have given the Scorries control of the game but Nairn striker Dylan MacKenzie soon reduced the deficit and went on to complete a hat-trick with goals early and late in the second half.

Eventually yellow cards counted against Academy who finished the game with nine players. Jack Henry committed only three fouls in the game and yet he got two yellow cards.

So Academy's frustration at failing to claim a point or three was compounded by double yellow cards for Michael Steven and Henry.

Central defender Grant Steven was missing with a recurrence of a ham-string problem while Sam Mackay was ruled out by work commitments.

Academy survived an early scare when in the third minute a close range header from Ryan MacDonald bounced down off the bar. The visitors soon recovered and Gary Manson drove a 30 yard free kick just wide of the post and McNab saw his 8 yard header headed off the line.

In the 30th minute, Ross Allan was tripped in the Nairn box after a surging run had taken him past two defenders. Macadie netted a text book penalty kick, driving the ball low into the corner of the net with keeper Ryan MacLeod diving the wrong way.

Within three minutes Wick doubled their lead. Steven Anderson played a one-two with Macadie on the right and MacLeod could only push his shot round the post. Allan's corner was headed away but quickly returned to the goalmouth by Jack Halliday and McNab drilled the ball into the net from 10 yards.

Three minutes later MacKenzie ran through the middle and steered the ball past the advancing Sean McCarthy to make it 2-1.

Two minutes into the second half Steven stood up to Kenny McKenzie as the Nairn attacker tried to go past him at the side of the box. Referee Alan Proctor judged it a foul and Steven, already booked in the first half, was given his marching orders.

The ten men almost scored a third goal when Allan delivered a free kick and Andrew Hardwick's glancing header dropped just wide.

In 52 minutes the home side were level after Jordan Macrae's low cross from the Nairn left was swept into the net by MacKenzie.

It gave Nairn a boost to get their equaliser but even after that Academy created more chances than the home team and defended well to restrict them to long range efforts.

Academy forced a series of corners but were caught out by a quick counter-attack in the 80th minute. Keeper MacLeod sent a long clearance to Macrae who slipped it to MacKenzie for the Nairn striker to net the winner and complete his hat-trick.

Moments later Wick were reduced to nine men when Henry was booked for a sliding tackle near the half way line.

Substitute Marc MacGregor broke through but delayed his shot and had to settle for a corner from which Anderson's glancing header flashed wide.
